In the 1st part audio of two part series on “Autismका कुराकानी” you will find Meraki Chhen and Utar Chadhav conversing on Neurodiversity and adult diagnosis.
Meraki Chhen is a space for the celebration of nuances of human lived experiences in terrains of gender, sexuality, neurotype and sociocultural pluralism. It aims at furthering discussions and expressions surrounding queerness, adult neurodivergence, asexuality and aromanticism, care and mental health, and embodied indigenous knowledge and practices.
This first part tries to understand what neurodiversity and being diagnosed as autistic as an adult means in the context of Nepal. Content discussed in the episode serves as a snapshot of anthropologically evolving scenarios and understanding of the complexity of human nervous system and human diversity and in no way is synonymous to the medical understanding of Autism and Neurodivergence. Autism is a spectrum and all autistics do not present the same way, this is our attempt at understanding the nuances of the spectrum.
Stay Tuned for the 2nd part which will be about lived experiences from folks.
